Spring 2024 Events

Weekly: 

Study Nights:

For students in the Meteorology-Climatology Major, this Spring we will continue our Sunday study nights from 6:00-10:00pm in the Meteorology lab, 105. This is a chance to do homework and ask questions to other Meteorology-Climatology students. More information will be available at the first AMS meeting of the semester. This will start on the Sunday, February 18.

AMS/SEAS Department Picnic: April 20th from 11:00am-2:00pm at Oak Lake Park

Come hang out at the end of year department get together! We'll be eating food, playing football and frisbee, and putting on lots of sunscreen!

Bowling at East Campus: April 20th at 2:00pm at the East Campus Union

Come join us for free bowling at East Campus. Shoes are free as well. We can carpool from Bessey if people need a ride over and back.

February Meeting Contents: T-shirts, Spring Semester plans, and a presentation by and Q&A with Aviation Meteorologist Deb Blondin.

Bowling at East Campus: February 23rd at 6:30pm at the East Campus Union

March Information Session: March 6 (Wednesday) from 6:30-7:30pm in the Bessey Lecture Hall (117)

Come listen to UNL Alum Logan Howard talk about his journey to the National Weather Service! There will also be a Q&A for those interested in working at the NWS.

March Meeting Contents: Broadcast Meteorology with Carmelo Lattuca and Rusty Dawkins!

Association for Women in Geoscience Panel: April 3 (Wednesday) from 3:30-5:30pm in the Bessey Lecture Hall (117)

Come hear from four women in government and industry work on their paths and their careers. They will each give a small presentation and there will be significant time at the end to ask questions!

Fall 2023 Events

Street Fair: August 20 from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the Memorial Stadium parking lot

Come say hi to our Executive Board and learn more about UNL AMS at the annual UNL Street Fair. Our table is right across from Bessey Hall. We'll be doing weather trivia and have a few fun items for you to pick up!

Club Fair: DATE CHANGED DUE TO HEAT ADVISORY, The club fair will be held on Tuesday, August 29 from 11:00am-1:00pm in the green space by the Union

If you miss us at the Street Fair or just want to come talk to us again, we'll have a table at the fall club fair again with weather trivia and fun items! (We'll be in the LEFT grass area if you're facing the Raikes dorms from the Union steps.)

Pumpkin Patch Social: October 22nd 3:00pm-8:00pm

Come join AMS and SEAS on a journey to Skinny Bones Pumpkin Patch to experience a tornado simulation and have fun hanging out with other students outside of Bessey Hall. We'll leave Bessey at 3:00pm and we'll carpool. It's $22.95 at the door. If you are interested, please fill out the following RSVP form so we can plan rides: link is no longer available.

Meeting Contents: Information about the NOAA Lapenta Internship and the application process with Dr. Pete Roohr and previous Lapenta intern and UNL graduate Ryan Martz

Twister Movie Night: November 19 6:00-8:00pm in Bessey 117

Come relax before Thanksgiving break and watch Twister with the meteorology majors. You are welcome to do homework and talk during the movie:)
